Always and Forever, Lara Jean by Jenny Han
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
Enjoyed it but didn’t have as much to the story as I found in the first two books of the series.
Verity by Colleen Hoover
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
I selected this book for the Bloom Reading Challenge 2020 as a “book recommended by fellow Bloom Book Club member”since it seemed like soooo many people in that group enjoyed it. I read it in basically two sittings – both at night when it was raining outside and I think that contributed to the overall crept out feeling I got while reading this. It was a page-turner for sure and while not the light-hearted feel-good story I typically love most, this is one that I will remember and recommend.
Parenting: 14 Gospel Principles That Can Radically Change Your Family by Paul David Tripp
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
This is the second time I’ve attempted to read this book and am happy to say this time I actually finished it. The first time I tried to read it, I was frustrated by the lack of practical advice. This time, I had a much better time understanding that this wasn’t intended to be a “how-to” guide with specific parenting tips and tricks but rather it was more of a high-level overview of the gospel principles that can be used to direct your approach to parenting.
Things You Save in a Fire by Katherine Center
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Such a lovely story of the power of forgiveness. It has all of the elements I love in a good story -complicated characters with interesting backstories, drama, romance, comedy, and a little mystery. I read this for the Bloom Reading Challenge 2020 – “a book by an author with your initials” (12/24).
The Things We Cannot Say by Kelly Rimmer
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
I feel like I may have done this book a disservice because I started listening to it on Audible shortly before the stay-at-home orders for Covid-19 were put in place in my state. So I didn’t have time in my car that I would typically get to listen in and I would go days sometimes without any progress on the book. I think had the book been in my hands I would have devoured the pages in a couple of days rather than the weeks it took to listen to. With that said, I loved this story. I loved the characters. And I loved how it put me in my place when thinking about true hardship and suffering at the hands of the government.
“It cost our ancestors too damn much to have this life. The best thing we can do to honor them is to live it to its fullest.”
The Guest List by Lucy Foley
My rating: 2 of 5 stars
I didn’t really love any of the characters and found the story to be predictable. I guessed who had done it just by reading the back cover – although I didn’t piece together why and then found the whole murder to be a bit absurd. Definitely not my preferred genre though to so take my opinion with a grain of salt.
Recursion by Blake Crouch

I think I enjoy sci-fi more than I realize.
