I was challenged this week to do a “Longer Story” scrapbook layout and I immediately knew I would be documenting my fight against SB276.
I’m not sure yet where this story will find it’s home or even how it will end, but I wanted to have it documented for my boys. So that someday when they are older, they can look at it, hold it in their hands and read the words of my heart. That they will come to understand how hard I am fighting for them.

I can’t talk about the story of SB 276 without first sharing a bit about Clayton. He started having seizures in the fall of 2016 (he was 2.5 years old at the time). When he had his first, seizure, I was totally unprepared and had never seen anything like it in my life. He had one side of his body stiff and jerking and the other limp and lifeless. His eyes rolled in the back of his head and he was foaming at the mouth while making no sound. He turned a terrifying shade of purple and blue as he was not breathing and became completely unresponsive. I have no idea how long it lasted or what was happening, I just remember screaming for my husband while trying to find the phone to dial 911. By the time emergency responders came, Clayton was breathing but still not responsive and his body was limp and eyes unfocused. They took him to the closest ER where we were told that this was likely a febrile seizure and was very common in children. I couldn’t understand how I had never heard of any of my friends experiencing this if it was so common. About a month later, he had two more seizures in the same day both without the presence of any fever. Apparently that is less common and we were referred to our first neurologist and given a diagnosis of A-Typical Seizures. He ended up having a total of 9 seizures (including 4 in one day) before the end of the year, given multiple different diagnosis including epilepsy, prescribed a number of anti-seizure medications which come with a host of scary side-effects and suffered a multi-day traumatic hospital stay in an isolation unit before we finally had a doctor tell us that his brain inflammation was likely due to vaccines and that we should stop vaccinating him. We never started him on the anti-seizures medications he was prescribed and have declined all additional vaccines and he has not had any seizures since (he’s now 5).

Currently, under California law, children are not allowed to attend school (public or private) unless they are fully up to date on required vaccines. A law was passed in 2015 (before this issue impacted my family or was remotely on my radar) that eliminated all exemptions to the vaccine requirement other than medical exemptions. But I think it is important to note that the original version of this bill (SB 277) also took away medical exemptions as well and it was only passed after amended to include a robust medical exemption that took into account family history and was left to doctor’s discretion. But despite the fact that California now has the highest vaccinate rates in school aged children that it’s ever seen, and that medical exemptions make up less than 1% of children in this state, in 2019 SB 276 was introduced which claims to go after doctors who are selling “fraudulent” exemptions but in reality it is smoke and mirrors designed to eliminate all medical exemptions just as SB 277 originally intended.

Clayton has a medical exemption that would be invalidated under SB 276 which means that he would not be able to attend school – public or private – unless we resume the shots which have already caused damage to his brain. As a mother, my number one role in life is to show my children the love of Jesus and to keep them safe for as long as God entrusts them to me. So I cannot and will not risk the harm of additional shots – particularly ones that are for sexually transmitted diseases that my pre-schooler is in no danger of contracted or spreading at school. I believe however, that my children, as well as all of the others who have suffered vaccine injury or compromised immune systems which make medical exemptions necessary, have a right to a classroom based education. I did not go searching for this fight but I’m not about to back down from it. Too much is at stake.

So the last six months of 2019 have been heavily focused on defeating SB 276. I’ve written countless letters to lawmakers, my representatives, the Medical Board of California and others. I’ve stepped outside of my comfort zone and started posting regularly on Facebook about my views regarding this bill. I reactivated my law license (something I didn’t really think I’d ever do) so that I could offer assistance in various capacities. I became part of a legal team that has already filed the lawsuit that will likely become the first legal challenge to SB 276 should it pass. I have shown up to my representatives local offices and attended events other representatives have held. I flew to Sacramento to attend the Senate Health Committee hearing on this bill and voiced my opposition there for the record. I’ve attended multiple opposition rally’s through a local Orange County Health Choice group. I even started commenting here and there on twitter (a social media platform I have avoided until now like the plague).

Perhaps the most difficult thing I’ve done was to attend an educational demonstration at Comic Con in San Diego. I joined about a hundred other parents who spent money out of their own pockets for travel, costumes, signs and flyers to walk or stand strategically placed in the heat for hours to bring awareness to the issue of vaccines. The event was called “V is for Vaccines” and was organized by a father who’s son was paralyzed by vaccines. The concept was based on the movie V for Vendetta and the masks and costumes only make sense in the context of that movie and Comic Con. We were divided into groups of five, each within our group with a different sign containing a single concise fact. We had flyers that coordinated with our sign containing more information and links to where the facts could be confirmed. My sign said simply “U.S. Law Classifies Vaccines As Unavoidably Unsafe” – fitting for me since I’m actually an attorney. Anyway, for almost four hours I stood in the sun and had insults and horrible things said to me. I had a child flip me off and another child ripe up a flyer they had gotten from someone else and throw it at me. Only a couple of people had any kind of discourse with me and only a handful gave me any positive encouragement at all as they walked by. Those that were supportive seemed like they felt they had to hide it – where the pro-vaxxers were yelling loudly their expletives those who agreed with the demonstration would say something quietly only in passing. Here are some examples of what I heard that day:

I hope your children die from a preventable disease……my friend is a kindergarten teacher and now has to worry about measles because of idiots like you…..I hope you die….you’re lucky your mother vaccinated you, otherwise I’d drown you….you’re the reason for our country’s destruction….do you even know that you’re in a cult?……who paid you to be here?……there is a special place in hell for you and your children…..ignorant…..f’ing idiot! do you want to bring back polio?…..you people are terrifying my child…..domestic terrorist…
It feels strange to highlight the hate here. Like somehow I’m giving it weight or honor by writing it down and sharing it. But it is a big part of this story and the ugliness needs to be told. I’m just a mom trying to do the best she can to protect her son and to be despised by total strangers for having a voice that differs from their perception was extremely difficult to endure. At times I was thankful for the mask that day because I’m sure my face betrayed how affected I was by the threats and negativity pointed my way. I understand why people are supportive of vaccines – I was too until Clayton was harmed – but how is it not ridiculous to tell someone that they and/or their child should die because they made a choice to stand on a crowded street with a sign that contained one single fact on it? I’m not about spreading fear, lies or hate – and it isn’t about being “right” – but I do want to encourage as many people as possible to open their eyes and ears beyond the pharma funded mainstream media’s talking points. We are being systematically lied to and our children and health of our nation is suffering.

One of the reoccurring stories in the news this year was about the measles. It seemed like every day there was another story about this “deadly” disease eliminated in 2000 making a comeback in our country. If you believed the news, Anti-vaxxers such as myself were determined to be the cause of the outbreaks. The truth is that while this year saw a significant rise in measles cases throughout the country, the overwhelming majority of those cases happened in adults and the originating cases appear to have come from people who had traveled overseas. And although we have seen more than 1,000 cases of the measles so far this year, not one single death has been reported. In fact no one has died from the measles in the US in over 10 years. But people have been seriously injured and some have lost their lives due to the MMR vaccine. We also know that the MMR vaccine immunity wanes and that there is what is called secondary vaccine failure (which is when the vaccine simply doesn’t work) so to blame an anti-vax movement for the fact that measles still exist is simply asinine (I’m calling out the WHO here for their statement that the biggest threat to global health is the anti-vax movement as totally ridiculous). At the end of the day, no deaths from the measles but Merk (the manufacturer of the MMR vaccine) is laughing all the way to the bank as they cash in on the increased profits in the 2nd quarter this year of over 50% due to the increase in measles vaccines sold based upon the media frenzy.

Despite everything that myself and so many other parents are doing to defeat this bill, everything seems to point in the direction of it passing. What I’ve learned from this experience is truly how broken our system of government is. Our politicians are pawns for special interests and Big Pharma is the biggest of them all. Just think about this….the pharma lobby outspends the oil and guns lobbies 3 to 1….pharma is also responsible for 70% of the advertising revenue for our news programing. We have gone to war over oil….. Once you start going down this rabbit hole, you simply can’t unsee what’s happening. The censorship, the media bias, the mis-information from the highest levels, the use of fear and intimidation, the revolving door and money trails, the fact that we have the highest infant mortality rate of all developed nations and the most aggressive vaccination schedule, the lack of liability, the lack of a single placebo based safety study on ANY mandated vaccine, the fact that 52% of our population now has a chronic health condition, the ASD epidemic, the fact that we’ve re-written history and taken a mild childhood illness and convinced a population that it is a deadly disease, the percentage of our child population on daily medication…..it’s madness.

But I’m not giving up. I want my boys to have a classroom education and I want all parents to have a choice when it comes to injecting toxins into their children. God always has a purpose for our pressure, He can make a way even when it seems there is no way, and I believe that continuing to fight this fight will ultimately bring glory to Jesus.
